Bransom specializes in patent prosecution of life sciences,
biotechnology and plant sciences.
Dr. Bransom grew up in California's agricultural region, in a
family with strong ties to the agricultural industry. She
completed her undergraduate studies in Molecular Biology at
Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. From there, Kay
completed her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics at Oregon State
University with an emphasis on plant-virus interactions.
Bransom has 10 years of experience in research and teaching in
biochemistry, molecular biology and plant virus pathology. Her
thesis and post-doctoral studies focused on the gene expression
of a virus in the Pirornaviridae family, including work on
coat-protein mediated viral resistance. Kay also mapped and
studied a virally encoded protease that plays a key role in the
viral life cycle.
