Jeffrey
L. Ihnen has over 40 years of experience in preparing and
prosecuting patent applications in the biotechnology, chemical,
and plant arts. He has extensive experience in all aspects of
U.S. and foreign patent prosecution. His practice focuses on a
broad array of technology, including genes, gene silencing,
proteins, peptides, neuropeptides, peptide toxins, monoclonal
and polyclonal antibodies, steroids, diagnostics, molecular
biology, immunology, virology, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals,
medical therapies, plants, plant regeneration, plant
transformation, cell culture, organic chemistry, and polymers.
Mr. Ihnen has prepared and prosecuted patent applications for
high profile genes, including the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. He
provides counseling to clients on development and implementation
of patent strategies, technology transfer, research and
development agreements, infringement and validity issues and
market clearance of products. He has performed technology audits
and due diligence analysis. In addition, he has substantial
experience in preparing infringement opinions and freedom to
operate opinions.
Mr. Ihnen received a law degree from George Washington
University Law School, and he has a Master of Science degree in
Biochemistry from the University of Iowa. He received a Bachelor
of Arts with distinction in Chemistry and Mathematics from
Wartburg College, graduating with a cum laude designation.
